Specific Departments and their Preference

Within the DPIIT, some departments may have distinct preferences for qualifications as other departments focus on different things. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of how various departments relate to specific fields of study:

1. Industrial Infrastructure Policy

  • Desirable Qualifications: Engineering (all branches).
  • Rationale: The department deals with the formulation and promotion of industrial infrastructure policies. Their expertise lies in developing the basic and civil engineering infrastructure that must come along with this promotion, hence the technical competency of engineering students is desirable for the department.

2. Industrial Policy and Promotion

  • Pre-requisites: Economics, Management, Finance.
  • Reason: In this field, policy conception and analysis will come handy for students who have studied economics and management.

3. Internal Trade

  • Preferred Qualifications: Law, Economics, and Management.
  • Reason: There is a need to understand the legal framework of trade regulation. Law students go well with these courses along with students of economics and management.

4. Startups

  • Preferred Qualifications: Management, Engineering, and Computer Science.
  • Rationale: This department caters to innovation and entrepreneurship; therefore, a student from either a management or technical background can be inducted to contribute towards startup ecosystems here.

5. Intellectual Property Rights

  • Preferred Qualification: Law and Management
  • Rationale: Intellectual property laws are an essential aspect of the field; hence, a student of law is particularly suitable for interning here.

General Considerations

While such preferences do exist, DPIIT does make case-to-case inclusions of candidates from other domains based on the departments’ specific needs. Thus, applicants may come in diversified fields as long as they meet the eligibility criteria for enrollment in recognised institutions pursuing a relevant degree.
