Over 16 lakh students are set to appear for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in Maharashtra, commencing on February 21, 2025. This significant event marks a crucial milestone in the academic journey of these students, as they prepare to take their Class 10 board exams. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has confirmed that a total of 16,11,610 candidates have registered for the SSC Board Exams, reflecting a diverse demographic of students across the state.
Overview of the SSC Examination
The SSC Board Exams is a pivotal assessment for students in their academic careers, serving as a gateway to higher education opportunities. This year, the examination will be conducted across 5,130 main centers and involves students from 23,492 secondary schools throughout Maharashtra. The student population includes 8,64,120 boys, 7,47,471 girls, and 19 transgender students.
The commencement of these SSC Board Exams is not just a routine academic procedure; it represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the students. For many, this is the first major examination they will face, and it can be both an exciting and stressful time.
Preparation and Support for Students
In anticipation of the SSC Board Exams, various measures have been implemented to support students and ensure a smooth examination process. The School Education Minister, Deepak Kesarkar, has extended his best wishes to all candidates and emphasized the importance of approaching the exams without undue stress. He stated that students should remain calm and focused during this critical period.
To further assist students in managing exam-related anxiety, the Maharashtra State Board has made arrangements for counseling services. A list of mobile numbers for trained counselors has been shared with students and parents alike. These counselors are available to provide guidance on both academic concerns and mental well-being.
Strict Measures Against Malpractices
In light of past experiences with examination irregularities, strict measures have been put in place to maintain the integrity of the SSC Board Exams. The authorities have replaced staff at 701 examination centers across the state to ensure a fair testing environment. Additionally, advanced surveillance techniques such as drone cameras will be utilized to monitor activities at various exam sites.
This proactive approach aims to deter any attempts at cheating or misconduct during the examinations. The commitment to maintaining a fair testing atmosphere is crucial not only for upholding educational standards but also for fostering trust among students and parents.
Examination Schedule and Guidelines
The SSC Board Exams will unfold over several days, with each subject being allocated specific time slots. Students are advised to arrive at their respective centers at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to ensure they are settled and prepared before beginning their papers.
In a move that reflects an understanding of student needs, last year’s practice of allowing an extra ten minutes for writing has been continued. This additional time can be invaluable for students as they finalize their answers under exam conditions.
Regional Participation
Among the various divisions in Maharashtra, the Mumbai division has reported a substantial number of candidates. Specifically, 3,64,314 candidates from this division will participate in the exams. The distribution includes 1,90,054 boys and 1,74,246 girls, with 2,638 candidates identified as persons with disabilities.
The districts within this division show varying levels of registration:

- Mumbai Western: 60,863 candidates
- Mumbai North: 43,434 candidates
- Mumbai South & Raigad: Less than 40,000 candidates each
This regional breakdown highlights areas where educational engagement is particularly strong and where additional support may be required.
As over 16 lakh students prepare to embark on their SSC Board Exams journey starting tomorrow, it is essential to recognize both the challenges they face and the support systems in place to assist them. This examination not only serves as an academic benchmark but also plays a significant role in shaping their future educational paths.
With strict measures against malpractice ensuring fairness in testing conditions and counseling services available for emotional support, students can approach their exams with confidence. As they step into this critical phase of their education, it is hoped that each candidate performs to the best of their abilities while maintaining their mental well-being throughout this demanding process.
The SSC Board Exams are more than just tests; they symbolize hope and opportunity for countless young individuals across Maharashtra.
